Property course v. the 'soft' course
When it comes to choosing what to study, a property course could teach you some valuable life lessons.
There's been much media coverage on the recent debate over 'soft' courses. University admission tutors have said they're finding it harder to distinguish between top academic students because of the predominance of 'soft' courses - A-levels such as Media Studies, Drama and Performance Studies. The debate has raised the notion that perhaps more practical, vocational and useful courses could be of more benefit for young people. One such course available to all adults is a property course that can teach you how to make profit from investing in the property market.
A property course for the practical
Following softer subjects can be good for some - there are many young people and mature students who take courses in screenwriting, performance or film studies who are all chasing a dream. And nobody would deny that it's important to follow your dreams. But for those who are looking for a helping hand in more practical things - such as property - taking a dedicated property course can have a real impact on your future.
Property course for potential future
One of the criticisms levelled at 'soft' courses is that they can leave you ill-equipped in life. For those students who took a degree subject in film studies for example, they could regret it later in life if they can't find a vocation or have any money-making skills. A property course offers a quick and simple fast track to potential financial freedom.
Finding the right property course
It's wise to choose a property course that has a proven track record. Buying a property for investment as a buy-to-let for example can be daunting, but with the right advice and expert guidance from a property course, it can be the best investment of your life. One property investor commented on the BBC site in response to the idea that people taking property courses and becoming investors are making life harder for first time buyers by snapping up potential bargains: "There is nothing to stop any first-time-buyer buying themselves a buy-to-let property," Vanessa Warwick, a full-time property investor from Guildford, wrote on the BBC site. "I was once a first-time-buyer. There is nothing to stop any first-time-buyer buying themselves a buy-to-let property and using that property to build a deposit for their own home. Buy-to-let mortgages are not based on your status or income. Anyone can get buy-to-let funding. I have properties in my portfolio valued between £400K and £500K which I could not afford to live in myself on a residential basis. However, I educated myself how to manage the risks and how to buy property with very little financial input. It took me three years to get into a position to give up my day job. So, instead of wasting time complaining about buy-to-let investors, get yourself educated how to do this, and buy some investment properties yourself. There is nothing to stop you other than your lack of knowledge or your lack of ambition."
A property course can give you the experience, knowledge and confidence to take that first step.
